Grimaldi Forum Monaco
Activity, CSR commitments and development prospects

Inaugurated in the year 2000, the Grimaldi Forum Monaco - named after the Grimaldi family, the historical reigning family of Monaco - stands today as a prominent international event venue.

With its dual purpose as a congress center and a cultural hub, and a steady pace of 120 events and 250,000 visitors annually, it stands as a significant economic player and an essential instrument in the international prominence of the Principality of Monaco.

CONGRESS CENTRE :

Its client portfolio is predominantly situated in Europe (France, Monaco, United Kingdom, Germany, etc.) and the United States. It presently boasts over twenty awards and accolades, and most importantly, a profound contentment among its clients, of which 35% are recurrent.

In 2019, just prior to the onset of the health crisis, it achieved its highest-ever turnover, amounting to 24 million euros, following five years of unceasing growth. Thus, the GFM is, outside the COVID period, a burgeoning enterprise, its outcomes proving advantageous to the local economy, with an estimated average of €70 million in indirect impact for the Principality each year.

Despite the great pause enforced by COVID in 2020, nearly 60 Monégasque and French events managed to be hosted during that year, due to the principality authorities' support. 2021 saw a resurgence with 82 events and a clientele primarily hailing from France and Europe. 2022 further cemented this resurgence with over 100 events, marked by the return of transatlantic clients.

In 2022, the forum also rekindled bustling commercial events, akin to its esteemed recurrent clients that shattered records. Notable instances included Luxe Pack (InfoPro Digital) with 9,500 attendees, a 5% increase compared to the exceptional year of 2019. Les Assises (Comexposium) witnessed 3,000 participants and 9,400 B to B meetings. Moreover, the recent AMWC Congress (Informa-Euromedicom) achieved an attendance record of 15,000 participants in 2023!

Hence, the Grimaldi Forum Monaco remains resolutely optimistic. Despite transient uncertainties in 2023 sometimes leading to "last-minute" event confirmations, which must be countered with heightened agility and flexibility, its order book remains well-endowed (approximately 85% of the 2019 turnover), and the influx of inquiries for 2024 and 2025 is already substantial.

CULTURAL CENTRE:

A distinguished venue of programming encompassing three robust axes - exhibitions, performances, and concerts - the Grimaldi Forum Monaco champions a demanding and diversified agenda, open to all audiences. Contributing to Monaco's cultural vitality for over 20 years, it is deeply woven into its public service mission and magnifies the international standing of the Principality.

One of the hallmarks of its identity lies in the savoir-faire rooted in its event culture and the expertise of a team adept at understanding the nuances of a subject, proficiently offering tailored experiences grounded in two principles: an unmistakable scientific value and meticulous quality in event execution, bolstered by the foremost specialists in each domain.

Since 2000, the Grimaldi Forum Monaco has consistently produced a major thematic exhibition every summer, spotlighting pivotal artistic movements, heritage or civilization subjects, and any theme embodying the essence of creative rejuvenation. The GFM collaborates with the world's most esteemed cultural institutions - museums, foundations, and galleries - lauded for the success of these grand summer exhibitions by lending major artworks.

Within the realm of live performances, the stage of the Salle des Princes, Monaco's largest auditorium with nearly 1,900 seats and a 1,000-square-meter stage (equivalent to Opéra Bastille), accommodates a myriad of productions. Its "hall of fame" boasts musicals, concerts, ballets, orchestras, magic shows, and also circus and theater performances, featuring increasingly dazzling artists. This echoes the Grimaldi Forum's commitment to providing an eclectic and excellent program accessible to all.

Moreover, the Grimaldi Forum serves as a natural haven for Monaco's cultural entities that call it home: the Monte-Carlo Ballets, the Philharmonic Orchestra and the Opera, the Monte-Carlo Arts Festival, the Audiovisual Institute, and the Princesse Grace Theater.

CSR: The Grimaldi Forum Monaco is committed!

Sustainability holds a pivotal place among the country's priorities, with a target of carbon neutrality by 2050. A pioneer in the "green" sphere, holding ISO 14001 certification since 2008, the GFM is further progressing towards ISO 20121 certification in 2023, closely linked to the events sector.

The Grimaldi Forum Monaco has firmly placed environmental protection at the core of its agenda. Since 2008, it has accomplished a 40% enhancement in energy efficiency—a ratio of electricity consumption improvement in relation to occupied space. This is coupled with a 2.5-fold increase in waste recycling rates and a reduction of over half its water consumption per visitor.

As an agent of change, the GFM ardently commits and actively participates in the national energy transition pact, which it has been a part of since 2018. The Grimaldi Forum Monaco collaborates with all its stakeholders, notably clients and suppliers, in infusing more "green" into the events industry.

Adhering to a management approach centered around humanity, the Grimaldi Forum Monaco has, since its inception in 2000, embraced ethical values, benevolence, equity, and sharing. Unified through training programs and team-building workshops, its 140 permanent employees are subject to unwavering attention, ensuring their well-being and quality of work life, while concurrently enhancing their skillsets. The lifeblood of the company, its team currently comprises 55% of employees who have served for over a decade, including 25% who have been part of the journey for over two decades! A dynamic player in student professionalization, the Grimaldi Forum is dedicated to passing on the expertise of the 44 professions practiced within, serving as a genuine springboard for students' professional lives, accompanied by quality mentorship.

From an economic and solidarity perspective, the Grimaldi Forum abounds with initiatives shared among all stakeholders. It endorses local charitable actions and encourages its employees to participate. The forum also shares best practices with peers and gives preference to local suppliers and service providers. Furthermore, the Grimaldi Forum stands as a significant economic driver for Monaco. Beyond its permanent staff, the GFM manages approximately 300 temporary contracts and indirectly engages 700 suppliers and service providers, fostering a pool estimated at over 5,000 jobs in the Principality and its surroundings, generating an average of 70 million euros in economic impact.

The Prospects of Development for the Grimaldi Forum Monaco

The Grimaldi Forum Monaco is presently embarking on an expansion of its facility as part of the Mareterra project, an extension into the sea of the Principality. This building extension aims to accommodate larger-scale professional events and simultaneously host multiple occasions.

This endeavor primarily seeks to cater to recurrent clients who are nearing capacity, such as Luxe Pack, AMWC, or 1to1 Retail - E-commerce, all of whom currently occupy all available spaces, including outdoor areas, necessitating even the installation of a marquee on the esplanade.

Furthermore, the objective is to enhance the adaptability of the spaces to meet the distinct requirements of particular sectors, such as the IT market or the nonprofit sector, which necessitate additional meeting rooms.

This initiative also opens the door to hosting gala dinners that can accommodate up to 1650 individuals, a feat not feasible within the confines of the current building if all square meters in exhibition format are utilized.

Starting in 2025, the exhibition capacity will be augmented by 50% with an additional 6000 square meters of versatile and modifiable spaces. Divided into three zones, some of these spaces will be bathed in natural light, suited for hosting exhibitions, conferences, meetings, seated lunches or dinners. Seamlessly connected to the rest of the building through a link with the current Diaghilev exhibition hall, this extension will also have an independent outdoor entrance facing the sea.

To make the most of this exceptional location at the heart of the Principality, 2000 square meters of outdoor spaces will also be available, including the Ravel Terrace with its 600 square meters and a view of the sea.

With Mareterra, the eco-district project within which the extension is integrated, the entire environment of the Grimaldi Forum Monaco will undergo a transformation, encompassing residences, public parking, shops, restaurants, a pine forest, and a marina. Naturally, the GFM seamlessly integrates into this eco-district, bolstered by the presence of the urban solar power station on its rooftop, the largest in the Principality.

Another advantage lies in the recently renovated Larvotto Beach, complete with new shops and restaurants, offering congress attendees an ideal relaxation setting in close proximity.
