Grimaldi Forum Monaco | Eco-friendly centre and sustainable development

Since 2008, the Grimaldi Forum Monaco (GFM) has been one of the first congress centres to obtain ISO 14001 certification, the only internationally recognized standard for environmental management based on continuous improvement. Since 2008, we have improved our energy efficiency by 32%, increased our material recovery rate by 2.5 times (with an on-site sorting centre) and reduced our water consumption per visitor by more than half. Beyond technical and financial means, these results are due to the strong commitment of its teams to reduce the impact of GFM's activity on the environment. As a change agent, the Grimaldi Forum is committed and actively participates in the implementation of the National Pact for Energy Transition, which it joined in 2018. This initiative by the Princely Government brings together all stakeholders in the Principality to achieve a 55% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 compared to 1990 and to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.In 2023, the GFM obtained 20121 certification, a international reference for more sustainable events.

SINCE 2000: AN ECO-DESIGNED & ECO-MANAGED BUILDING

CENTRALISED TECHNICAL MANAGEMENT (CTM):

A policy of monitoring and investment, as well as equipment maintenance, based on a high-performance building CTM 23,600 control points): programming of air conditioning, lighting, water monitoring and overflow management.

REDUCE AND RECYCLE ALL OUR WASTE

An on-site sorting centre for glass, paper, packaging, wood, brown cardboard, waste electrical and electronic equipment, batteries, metals, etc., with signage in several languages, colours and images at strategic points. Specific monitoring of signage tarpaulins and carpets. A process for handing over non-reusable event equipment to staff.

SEAWATER AS A RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCE

The production of the hot and chilled water needed to treat the building's air is provided by heat pumps that extract the calories or frigories needed to control the temperature and humidity of the premises from seawater. The electricity used to run the pump is not used to produce heat, but to transport it. With its high coefficient of performance, this air treatment system actively promotes energy savings, while using renewable energy as a raw material.

NATURAL, HIGH-PERFORMANCE THERMAL INSULATION

A building 3⁄4 below sea level, with the remaining 1⁄4 using cellular glass insulation, a recyclable material that meets High Environmental Quality criteria.
