When Alban Berg wrote his violin concerto (1935), he dedicated it to the memory of “Mutzi” (the daughter of Alma Mahler and the architect Walter Gropius) who disappeared too young. In this work that resonates like a requiem, the flights of the solo violin symbolize the journey of the soul of this young woman of 18 years who rises towards mysterious spheres. Tedi Papavrami’s exceptional play allows this masterpiece to reach its full depth. The story that inspired Schönberg for Pelléas and Mélisande (1905) is no less moving and just as strong: two lovers love each other without being able to say it, terrorized by the world around them…
