OBLOMOV

Sat. 11th October 2014

On stage tonight.... "Oblomov"

Praising laziness by Guillaume Gallienne

For the first time, the Princess Grace Theatre and the Grimaldi Forum Monaco will join forces to present an exceptional evening to open the PGT season.

On the floor of the Salle Prince Pierre, Guillaume Gallienne and the comedians from the Comédie-Française troupe will present "Oblomov" by Ivan Alexandrovitch Gontcharov, in collaboration with the Monaco Prince Pierre Foundation. Translation: André Markowicz. Adaptation and direction: Volodia Serre.

The action takes place in Russia in 1861. Landed gentry living in Saint - Petersburg, Oblomov denies the outside world and shuts himself away at home. He spends his days, stretched out on his chaise, buried in daydreams. His friend Stoltz tries to liberate him from this lethargy by introducing him to a young woman.

During the revolution, the Bolshevik ideology made Oblomov appear to be a parasite, a symbol of the system to be abolished. The arrival of Stoltz, representing the new man, will create a divide and this confrontation will open barriers.
