MONTE-CARLO BALLET
Sun. 28th December 2014 8:00pm - Wed. 31st December 2014
“Faust” is a powerful show through which Jean-Christophe Maillot illustrates his exceptional ability to orchestrate a body of artistic disciplines around dance. If the ballet draws on his strengths in choreography, the graphical universe that serves him as backdrop also accounts for much. Jean-Christophe Maillot has developed here a pictorial vision of the dance of a great seduction without sacrificing movement.
An amazing feat! Each scene offers a composition of exceptional beauty and invites the spectator to join Faust in his search for eternal youth and a life of pleasure.
Rolph Sachs' stage design and Philippe Guillotel's costumes wonderfully illustrate this impossible quest, while Franz Liszt's musical score (interpreted by the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Nicolas Brochot), partnered with Bertrand Maillot's musical world, create a fairy-tale atmosphere that perfectly suits Goethe's romanticism.
“Faust” is a hypnotic ballet of impressive visual efficacy. It grips the spectator and gives the impression that Mephistopheles participated in its production, the better to tempt us.
