Through this reinterpretation of La Bayadère, Jean-Christophe Maillot takes a further step. The “mise-en-abîme” that he introduces into his ballets from time to time, here becomes the central theme of the whole piece. Jean-Christophe Maillot had dreamed of creating a choreography bridging fiction and reality that would show the audience the daily life of the dancer for years. Now with Ma Bayadère it is done, a real immersion in the life of a company with its choreographer, its ballet master, its soloists... and those who belong to this great family Ma Bayadère offer us a story where the destiny in chiaroscuro of a sacred dancer, the tribute to life in a Compagnie and the celebration of the world of the studio, the temple of emotions where the dance barre is a home and of which Jean-Christophe Maillot is the devoted servant.
