It was in January 2011 : THE CENTENNIAL OF THE CATHEDRAL

Exhibition

Tues. 18th January - Sat. 5th February 2011

Year 2011 will mark the hundredth anniversary of the consecration of the Cathedral of Monaco. Various celebrations and demonstrations will permit to celebrate this event but also to underline the particular place of the Cathedral in a Diocese.

"The year of Centenary" will begin with Sainte-Devote’s solemnity, on the 27th of January, and will end on December 8th, patronal feast of the Cathedral. Starter of this special year, an exhibition will present unpublished documents - photos of the architect, plans, drawings, pieces of archives-, some of the moldings of the statues which are on the facade of the building, liturgical clothes and pieces of silversmith's trade ordered by Mgr. Theuret, first Bishop of Monaco. The archives of the architect Charles Lenormand, acquired by the Heritage Multimedia Center (Paris), will be shown for the first time. The objective also is to show the life of the Cathedral during those last 100 years because the stony building is there to welcome "alive stones" which compose the diocesan community. The proposed route will also have an educational and didactic dimension, in particular in the direction of the children and the young people who, from the Grimaldi Forum, will be invited to join the Rock and to enter the Cathedral to discover it better.
