CECILIA BARTOLI CONCERT

Wed. 6th March 2013

On Wednesday 6 March 2013 at 8pm, Cecilia Bartoli, "the world's best-selling classical artist", is giving a one-off concert in the Grimaldi Forum Monaco's Salle des Princes, a joint initiative of the Opéra de Monte-Carlo and the Principality's cultural centre.

In recent years Cecilia Bartoli's unwavering curiosity has brought to light numerous neglected gems of Baroque music for us to rediscover. This passion for seeking out manuscripts hidden away in European libraries has led to some very special and exciting concerts and recordings.

This is again the case with her latest album, Mission, released this autumn. For the first time in her recording career, Cecilia Bartoli devotes her attention to the transitional period between early music and Baroque music, revealing forgotten treasures that have mostly never before been recorded on CD. Mission showcases the music of the Italian composer Agostino Steffani (1654-1728), a mysterious character whose colourful life involved international politics, religious conflicts, diplomatic secrecy and even spying. Cecilia Bartoli reminds us that Steffani's turbulent life did not prevent him from composing fascinatingly beautiful pieces of music.

The entire world has hailed Cecilia Bartoli's peerless musicality, her stunning virtuosity and the immediately recognisable warm timbre of her voice. She who performs regularly in leading concert halls and opera houses in Europe, the United States and Japan will now perform her new programme for the Monegasque public. The Opéra de Monte-Carlo and the Grimaldi Forum are delighted to welcome "La Bartoli" for what will unarguably be a major highlight of the Principality's cultural season.
