BOLCHOÏ BALLET
Sat. 20th - Sun. 21st December 2014
On December 19th, 20th and 21st 2014, the legendary Ballet of the Bolshoi Theatre will interpret “The Taming of the Shrew”, choreographed by Jean-Christophe Maillot. Applauded since its première in July 2014 in Moscow, this creation represents an unprecedented event: it's the first time that the Bolshoi has invited a foreign choreographer to create a full-night's narrative ballet for its dancers.
To revisit Shakespeare's work pitting the flamboyant Petruchio against the cantankerous Catharina, Jean-Christophe Maillot is surrounded by Ernest Pignon-Ernest (stage design), Dominique Drillot (lighting), Augustin Maillot (costumes), Jean Rouaud (dramaturgy), as well as Bernice Coppieters who assisted him in this venture. For music, the choreographer developed a musical score using diverse works of Dimitri Chostakovitch which will be interpreted by the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of the talented Igor Dronov. Don't miss this great choreographic rendezvous!
