After his breakthrough electo-pop performance with the Husbands trio (two EPs and one album in 2015 with Microphone Recordings/Sounds Like Yeah), Mathieu Poulain a.k.a Oh! Tiger Mountain is back in action, alone on the controls of Altered Man, an ambitious, abounding, and exuberant third album. Stirring and reckless, with this new project the young crooner-song writer from Marseilles moves away from the minimalist tinkering of his previous opus to joyfully blast his indie-glam-rock-wave beats on a background of baroque and synthetic arrangements, 70s drum breaks, fuzz guitars and improbable electro filters. With his acid velvet voice always on-point at the center of tumultuous pop songs, he thus brings together a dozen impressionist vignettes, all filled with the absurdities of modern life increasingly torn between reality and construction and, in which, using all available resources, he takes up his influence without disguise nor vintage posing to create a disk that recognizes only one time period: his own. “Nothing is real and everything hurts!”
