Da Break is the name of a new band bringing together 3 individuals from the Lyon music scene: producer Bruno Horvat, aka “Patchworks”, singer Jennifer “Hawa” Zonou and drummer Rémy Kaprielan. Together, they distill a spirit of soul & jazz all while searching for a “nineties” vibe. Gathered around a project infused with ‘90s sounds, the trio provides a Soul Boom Bap, honoring their common hip-hop culture. This project is primarily inspired by human relationships and the consequences of our actions on others. This album’s influences are based on ‘90s hip hop/R’n’B productions, with heavy jazz samples, referencing bands such as The Pharcyde or A Tribe Called Quest, as well as grooves recalling titles from Mary J Bilge or Janet Jackson. By wanting to synthesize its common cultures, DA BREAK doesn’t hesitate to also approach 2step beats and Jamaican dancehalls.
