Cleaning-up operation in the Mercantour Park

It's a second life for the Grimaldi Forum's events signage!

The 11thedition of the cleaning operation managed by the Parc Mercantour and the Mountain Wilderness has taken place from the 9thto the 13thof July 2010 in the height of Isola 2000. Around 130 voluntaries have taken turns to clear the mountain of barbed threads, collected into the tarpaulins given from a part by the Grimaldi Forum Monaco.

Challenge the stiff slopes to dig out and to pull up from the ground the abandoned vestiges into this alpine zone between France and Italy by the troops since the 2ndWorld War, and this in order to erase any latent peril and give back to the wildlife the whole expense of its huge territory, this is the objective of those valorous voluntaries gathered together for this cleaning operation. “It is a very popular cite for the chamois, the mouflons and the roes. This year, for the first time, we haven’t found some dead chamois taken into the barbed thread”, notices Patrice Tordjman, guard leader of the Parc Mercantour. Sign of the well-paid work accomplished since 1999 by more than 300 voluntaries! Around 20 tones of barbed thread and of pig tails (stakes screwed on the ground) have, this year again, been collected. Wearing the total of 115 tones of scrap metal cleared! Scraps has been distributed onto about forty “cocoons” disposed on the tarpaulins stemmed from, a part, the Grimaldi Forum Monaco, divided up into large squares. Once tied up, those charges will be taken at the end of the month of August by helicopter in order to be recycled. There will be around forty rotations helicopter-borne in order to evacuate the 20 tones of scrap metal…
