At the end of the sixth edition of WIMA, Laurent Puons, Vice President of Monaco Mediax, organizer of this international trade show dedicated to NFC (Near Field Communication), makes a first assessment flattering of the expected development of this mode of wireless communication
Is NFC Technology enough known by the public?
“We can say that today the NFC begins to be courant. In 2007 only Nokia was interested in the technology of wireless communications, today there are four brands producing NFC phones. However, there is still a long way to go for that the users equip themselves with an NFC phone, which is not yet the norm for the constructors”
In terms of participants and visitors, do you notice an increase compared to previous years?
"We recorded a 40% increase of the exhibition space, with 20% more of exhibitors and also participants comparing last year. Those increases are naturally linked to the evolution and development of the NFC industry"
What evolution of the NFC do you notice in the exhibition?
"At the start of WIMA, the most common applications were related to the recovering information. Now we can see with satisfaction that the NFC applications are developed into other uses such as payment, access control, health, social networks and games.”
Will the NFC mobile phones be common objects in tomorrow's society?
"The aim today is that the NFC phone becomes indispensable to the consumer in a way that he uses different applications which simplify his daily life. Already five years ago, I indicated that NFC phones could become at medium term the new "Swiss knife" of the user. "
