Our environmental management achieves results
Since October 2008 when it obtained ISO 14001 certification – the first ever European congress centre to achieve this –, the Grimaldi Forum Monaco has been proactively committed to the eco-responsible path.
Through the introduction of an environmental management system, Monaco's culture and congress centre is proving day by day that it is possible to reduce the impact on the environment of the events business in general.
Over these four years, the Grimaldi Forum has worked hard to involve its staff, service providers, suppliers and – more ambitiously – its clients in this drive towards a sustainable economy. It has vastly improved its environmental performances and has made its ecological policy a strong component of its business strategy.
Considerable investments have been made and numerous innovations introduced, with full respect for sometimes restrictive procedures. Today, the figures prove just how much this determination has achieved in these four years.
Overview
From 2008 to 2011 we reduced our consumption of electricity by more than 9%, notably by installing low-energy lighting; today, 71% of the 20,000 permanently installed light bulbs are low-energy.
The water-saving figures are even more eloquent: our consumption of water fell to 9600m³ in 2011, with a 24% reduction in the last year.
But the biggest success story is unquestionably our sorting and recycling of waste materials. From zero recycling we have built up to recycling no less than 43% of the Forum's waste, with a 9% increase in the last year alone due to the fact that we are now able to recycle wood too (80 tonnes recycled, 15% of total waste).
As part of its ongoing certification, the Grimaldi Forum has set itself attainable objectives for 2012:
Increasewaste sortingby2%
Reducepaper consumption by2% (A4 and A3 paper, headed paper, envelopes)
Maintain waterand power consumptionat the lowest level compatible with occupancy rates
Increasepurchasing of eco-responsible goods by2%
Lastly, promoting ecological awarenesswill henceforth be a priority, bothinternally by upgrading facilities and equipment, notably by installing new dynamic signage, and externally by publishing an e-magazine to inform the general public about the pro-active position on sustainable development adopted by the Grimaldi Forum as a whole and numerous other players in the Principality of Monaco.
